The Body of Christ: Many Members, Each Essential

The Person & the Work of the Holy Spirit (12). In 1st Corinthians 12, Paul uses the metaphor of the human body to show that the Church is a single, unified whole made up of many different members, each with a distinct, yet essential role. Through this image he emphasises that God has arranged each member in the local Church according to His divine will and purpose, that the Church is a living community where every person matters & where each member of the Body is called to walk in the things of the Spirit for the common good so that together we can grow in unity, in maturity & in effectiveness for the Kingdom of God. The Church that Jesus said He would build will align with the picture that Paul conveys in this metaphor.
