The Beatitudes (8). Matthew 5:8 says “Blessed are the pure in Heart for they shall see God.” Simple words, but they hold a deep & powerful truth because they touch on something that every human soul longs for to see God, to be close to Him, to know His presence, His power & His peace. But this promise also comes with a requirement …a pure heart. And that raises the questions: What does it mean to be pure in heart? Can anyone truly have a pure heart? And how can we live in such a way that we might truly see God, …not just someday, but here and now? This is not a reward for those who try hard enough, but the promise for those whose hearts have been transformed by God’s grace. Purity of heart is not something we can achieve on our own. It is the supernatural work of God, who gives us a new heart & a new Spirit when we turn from our sin & place our trust in Jesus. From that new God-given heart flows new life, new desires & a new way of seeing the world—and seeing God.
