The Lord’s Prayer (7). The Christian life was never meant to be a journey towards greater independence from God, but toward deeper dependence upon Him. In this final petition from the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches us to recognise our need for the Father’s wisdom, leading & protection, not simply to keep us from evil but to lead us in His wisdom, His will & His ways. As we learn to stay close to the Shepherd, we learn that spiritual maturity is not greater confidence in ourselves, but greater confidence in an ever-faithful Father.
