The Beatitudes (4) In this series of messages on The Beatitudes, one of the first things we reflected on was how they are not intended to be seen as a pathway for salvation. Rather they are to be seen as the mark of the Christian character. They are the qualities that are to be experienced by the Christian as they follow Christ & as they are transformed more and more into His likeness. They are not qualities that we are to strive for as an outward sign of our piety; rather they are the qualities that flow out of us, as we have been regenerated & are now sanctified inwardly by the Holy Spirit. From Scripture, to hunger & thirst for righteousness, is a strong analogy to the depth with which we are to pursue being in right standing with God. From that flows His blessing, His promises & deep abiding assurance that we are loved & in the centre of His will.
